This website displays some suggestive images of the history and memory of the Underground Railroad of Western Illinois.

Traces of Western Illinois' Underground Railroad seeks to document both "fact" and "folklore" about the WIUGRR. Visitors may view various digitized artifacts in this collection individually, through the project's archive, or arranged in thematic exhibits. There is also a map showing where many of the real artifacts are in Western Illinois, in case you are traveling and want to experience them at first-hand. This project also maintains a list of resources for teaching and research about the WIUGRR. Visitors also are encouraged to share their stories about the WIUGRR on the site's accompanying Facebook page, where the author of this digital history project, Tim Roberts, may also be reached. Tim lives in Macomb, Illinois, and is an historian of the Civil War and nineteenth-century America.
