An Unmarked McDonough County Station

Dublin Core

Title

An Unmarked McDonough County Station

Subject

Underground Railroad site

Description

This image shows the modern home and farm buildings on the location of a UGRR station near Macomb, Illinois, "operated" by Harmon Allison, who settled there with his wife Beulah around 1854, once his father William built it. Beulah Brown Allison moved to Macomb from Quincy, where her family were UGRR operators. The site of the Harmon homestead remains highly rural, and the orientation of the image is from the southwest, thus suggesting something of the site's possible appearance to fugitives arriving from the direction of Quincy, Illinois.
